Deadly Delivery found that little data is
available on maternal morbidity (complications),
despite its frequency. “Near misses,” complications so severe the
woman nearly dies, have increased by over
25% between 1998 and 2005.
Currently, nearly 30% of women experience
complications related to childbirth,
and this has not improved in recent years.
